Handling of Personal Information at the Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association
The Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (hereinafter referred to as “JPMA”) complies with the “Act on the Protection of Personal Information” (hereinafter referred to as the “Personal Information Protection Act”) and handles personal information appropriately and securely.
Basic Policy on Personal Information Protection
1. Basic Policy
The JPMA is a voluntary organization composed of pharmaceutical companies that aim to contribute to society through the research and development of new pharmaceuticals for medical use. It conducts activities to contribute to the sound development of the pharmaceutical industry, including resolving issues common to pharmaceutical companies, promoting public understanding of pharmaceuticals, and engaging in international collaboration.In carrying out these activities, all individuals engaged in the Association’s operations regard the protection of personal information as a key aspect of their social responsibility, remain constantly aware of this responsibility, and strive to ensure its protection.
Furthermore, the JPMA will establish a system of accountability and implement measures to appropriately protect personal information in accordance with the following policy.
2. Management of Personal Information
- We have established the Association’s “Personal Information Protection Management Regulations” and will comply with the Act on the Protection of Personal Information and other relevant laws and regulations.
- JPMA respects the rights of individuals regarding their personal information and will respond appropriately, in accordance with the Personal Information Protection Management Regulations and other relevant guidelines, to any requests for inquiries, disclosure, correction, or deletion of personal information.

We will constantly strive to protect personal information by implementing the following appropriate management measures:
- We will appoint a Personal Information Protection Manager to clarify accountability.
- We will implement appropriate security measures and preventive actions against risks such as the leakage, destruction, alteration, or loss of personal information.
- We will implement access restrictions to personal information databases and strive to ensure their secure management.
- We will conduct ongoing education and awareness-raising activities for our staff regarding the protection of personal information to ensure thorough understanding.

- We will collect, use, and provide personal information within the scope of the JPMA’s business objectives.
- When outsourcing operations to fulfill the purposes of use, we will ensure the proper management and supervision of contractors regarding the handling of personal information.
- This Basic Policy and the Personal Information Management Regulations will be reviewed in light of the enactment, amendment, or repeal of laws and regulations, as well as changes in circumstances.
3. Complaints and Inquiries Regarding the Handling of Personal Information
JPMA is a member organization of the Japan Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Associations, a certified personal information protection organization recognized by the Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare. The Federation accepts complaints and inquiries regarding the handling of personal information by its member organizations.
