Handling of Personal Information at the Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association

The Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association ("JPMA") complies with the "Act on the Protection of Personal Information" ("Personal Information Protection Act") and handles personal information appropriately and safely.

Basic Policy on Personal Information Protection

1. Basic Policy

The Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Japan is a voluntary association of pharmaceutical companies that aim to contribute to society through research and development of new drugs for medical use. The association conducts business to contribute to the sound development of the pharmaceutical industry by resolving problems common to pharmaceutical companies, deepening public understanding of pharmaceuticals, and engaging in international collaborative activities. In carrying out these businesses, all of us who are engaged in the Association's operations regard the protection of personal information as an important matter of social responsibility, and we are always aware of our responsibilities and strive to protect such information.

In addition, the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Japan (PMAJ) will establish a system responsible for the appropriate protection of personal information and will implement the following policy in its efforts.

2. management of personal information

  1. In addition to establishing the association's "Personal Information Protection Management Regulations" regarding the protection of personal information, the association will comply with the Personal Information Protection Law and other related laws and regulations.
  2. The Association respects the rights of individuals regarding their personal information, and responds appropriately to inquiries regarding their personal information, as well as requests for disclosure, correction, or deletion of such information, in accordance with its Personal Information Protection and Management Regulations.

  3. We will always strive to protect personal information through appropriate management as follows

    1. Appoint a personal information protection manager and clarify where the responsibility lies.
    2. We will take appropriate safety measures and precautions against risks such as leakage, destruction, falsification, and loss of personal information.
    3. We will strive to manage personal information safely by restricting access to our personal information database.
    4. We will continuously educate and enlighten our employees on the protection of personal information and ensure that they are fully aware of the importance of the protection of personal information.
  4. The personal information will be collected, used, and provided within the scope of the business purposes of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Japan (PMAJ).
  5. When outsourcing work to a third party to carry out the purpose of use, we will appropriately manage and supervise the third party with respect to the handling of personal information.
  6. This basic policy and personal information management rules will be reviewed in accordance with the enactment, revision, or abolition of laws and regulations, as well as changes in circumstances.

3. complaints and consultation regarding the handling of personal information

The Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Japan (PMAJ) is a member of the Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers' Associations of Japan (FMPJ), an authorized personal information protection organization accredited by the Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare. The Association accepts complaints and consultations regarding the handling of personal information by the covered entities.
