Living with Hope. Photography Exhibition: Living with Disease - Unseen Answers for the Future" (hereafter, the "Exhibition") will be held at sorama gallery (Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) from December 12 (Tue) to 17 (Sun), 2023.

Even with the development of medical care, there are still "unmet medical needs" such as lack of treatments, lack of effective drugs, and the burden of treatment, as well as "drug lag/loss," where drugs approved overseas are not approved in Japan, or are not developed in Japan. The Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Japan (PMAJ) is working to address these issues. The Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Japan (PMAJ) hopes to increase the number of people who understand these issues by communicating them to the world at large and working to eliminate them.

November is the "Month for Everyone to Think about Healthcare" designated by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare. With the cooperation of four organizations, this photo exhibition displays the images and thoughts in the form of portraits and messages of patients and their families who are facing the disease, cancer survivors and supporters, medical professionals, and others who are battling the disease in various capacities and challenging themselves without losing hope.

In addition, the portraits in this exhibition were taken by photographer Harvey Yamaguchi, whose consistent theme is "capturing the hope of life.

Through this exhibition, the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Japan (PMAJ) will contribute to the further promotion of awareness and understanding of social issues in the pharmaceutical and medical fields.

Purpose of the event

In the society we live in, there are people who face illnesses every day, believing that one day they will be able to use the medicines they want or find a cure. In this exhibition, we will display photographs and messages from patients and their families, survivors of cancer and those involved in patient support activities, as well as doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and others in various capacities, showing how they are living with the disease and not losing hope. In conjunction with the exhibition, an introductory page for the photo exhibition will be posted on the website of the Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (JPMA).
We hope that many people who are not themselves affected by the disease will become aware of the issues in medicine and healthcare, and we hope to encourage a change from indifference to interest and from lack of understanding to understanding.
