The Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (Chairman: Yasushi Okada, hereinafter referred to as "JPMA") has established a Task Force (hereinafter referred to as "TF") to promote the utilization of medical information databases in order to educate the general public on the significance of the pharmaceutical industry's utilization of healthcare data*.
As part of the TF activities, we have produced an educational booklet for the general public on the use of health and medical data, "Health and Medical Data and Our Lives," and have published an e-Book version on the website of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Japan (PMAJ).
*Generic term for health data obtained through health checkups, nursing care and daily activities, and data related to medical care recorded at hospitals, clinics and dispensing pharmacies.

The Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Japan (PMAJ) will make every effort to disseminate this booklet to the general public in cooperation with related stakeholders so that it can be actively used for distribution at various events and other occasions.

About the booklet "Health and Medical Data and Our Lives" (Japanese only)
Until now, health and medical data has been mainly used to understand one's own health status and to treat illnesses. Recently, with the recent advancement of digital technology, it has become easier to collect a variety of health and medical data, and further utilization is becoming possible. This is expected to lead to the realization of high-quality medical care in which the most appropriate medicine, treatment, etc. is provided to each individual.
On the other hand, the general public is not familiar with the utilization of health and medical data, and there is a lack of widespread understanding of what can be achieved through further utilization of such data.
Based on the above background, the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Japan (PMAJ) is actively engaged in activities to realize the provision of diverse value to the general public by raising awareness about the significance of more optimal utilization of health and medical data. Since the purpose of this activity is to promote the utilization of health and medical data not only in the pharmaceutical industry but also in society as a whole in a more progressive manner, we will produce an educational booklet for the general public, "Health and Medical Data and Our Lives," to be used in our subsequent educational activities.
