We are pleased to announce the launch of the Greater Tokyo Biocommunity (GTB) in the Hongo/Ochanomizu/Tokyo Station area, with the University of Tokyo, Tokyo Medical and Dental University, and the Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (JPMA) as the lead agencies.

GTB, which was established in November 2021, is a global bio-community that aims to strengthen the bio-industry ecosystem in the Tokyo area to contribute to the achievement of the goal set forth in the government's Bio-Strategy 2020: to realize a world-leading bioeconomy society by 2030. The University of Tokyo is the driving force behind this initiative.

This promotion system will be established in the Hongo/Ochanomizu/Tokyo Station area of GTB, which is the main activity area of the University of Tokyo and Tokyo Medical and Dental University, and will be comprised of the two universities with functions of promoting industry-academia collaboration, incubation, networking, human resource development, funding, hospital, and clinical research, and the two universities with functions of clinical development and production for practical application of seeds. The Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Japan (PMAJ), an organization of pharmaceutical companies with the functions of clinical development and production for the commercialization of seeds, will play a central role in promoting the activities of the center. The center will also call for the participation of a wide range of universities, research institutes, hospitals, government agencies, venture capitalists, entrepreneurship support organizations, and private companies based in the area, and will organically collaborate with these members to seamlessly link the flow from invention and discovery (creation of seeds) to commercialization and production. By organically collaborating with these members, we will build a value chain that seamlessly links the flow from invention and discovery (creation of seeds) to commercialization and production, and provide attractive products and services.

While fulfilling their respective missions, the University of Tokyo, Tokyo Medical and Dental University, and the Pharmaceutical Cooperative Association will mutually utilize their respective functions and knowledge to form an ecosystem that attracts human resources and investment from around the world to create innovation.

A session on the GTB Hongo, Ochanomizu, and Tokyo Station area is scheduled for October 13, 2022 at "BioJapan 2022" ( https://jcd-expo.jp/ja/ ). We plan to explain the future plans of this center and other matters. (
