Currently, the environment surrounding drug discovery in Japan is undergoing significant changes. The government is advancing initiatives to strengthen Japan’s drug discovery capabilities; for example, in the Japan Growth Strategy approved by the Cabinet in July 2026, “Drug Discovery and Advanced Medical Care” was designated as one of the priority strategic areas.Drug discovery is not only a sector that drives Japan’s economic growth but also a vital foundation supporting health and medical security.

To ensure that these environmental changes are firmly seized as new growth opportunities, to enhance Japan’s drug discovery capabilities, and to establish Japan as a globally preferred hub for drug discovery, the pharmaceutical industry must play a more proactive role than ever before.

In this context, building on the trust we have cultivated over many years, the JPMA will further strengthen the foundation of our activities and strive to become an organization capable of responding flexibly and proactively to changes in society and the drug discovery environment.At the same time, we will further enhance our organizational reliability and transparency, while deepening collaboration with a diverse range of stakeholders—including our member companies, patients, citizens, healthcare professionals, academia, government agencies, and startups—to expand our circle of co-creation.

Since our founding in 1968, our mission—to deliver innovative medicines to patients as quickly as possible and contribute to the advancement of global healthcare—remains unchanged.With this mission in mind, the JPMA will adapt to the changing times and, as an increasingly trusted partner in co-creation, continue to move forward to enhance Japan’s drug discovery capabilities, contribute to economic growth through drug discovery, and advance global healthcare.
