*What is Girls Meet STEM?
a tour-based experiential program in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) field for female junior high and high school students, conducted by the Shintaro Yamada D&I Foundation in collaboration with technical colleges, universities, companies, and research institutions.Junior and senior high school students visit the campuses, laboratories, and offices of technical colleges, universities, and companies to experience real-world STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) environments firsthand. Through interactions with college and graduate students as well as working women, they broaden their horizons regarding further education and career possibilities.
In March of this year, under the auspices of the JPMA and in collaboration with the National Museum of Science and Technology, we held a special spring break event titled
“How Are Medicines Created? Hands-On Tour: See, Touch, and Talk – Girls Meet STEM in Tokyo,” which was attended by many junior and senior high school students. This summer vacation program builds on that initiative, offering a wider variety of workplace experiences and networking opportunities by implementing programs that highlight the unique characteristics of each participating company.
In addition to tours of each company’s research laboratories and offices, as well as workshops, the program will feature roundtable discussions and networking events led by female employees currently active in the field. These activities will provide participants with opportunities to gain a deeper understanding of actual workplaces and jobs, as well as higher education, career development, and the appeal of the life sciences and pharmaceutical industries.
Asuka Miyabashira, Chairperson of the JPMA, stated, “To support the advancement of science, technology, and healthcare, it is essential to create a society where a diverse workforce can thrive.
