We would like to extend our sincere congratulations to Sanae Takaichi on her assumption of office as Prime Minister of Japan.

The new Prime Minister, Mr. Takaichi, has so far focused his efforts on strengthening Japan's economic security and realizing a science and technology-based nation, and has promoted the development of pharmaceuticals and vaccines as well as the enhancement of drug discovery capabilities, including a stable supply system. The "investment for growth" that he has set forth as a policy is a source of great encouragement for the R&D-oriented pharmaceutical industry, which believes in contributing to healthcare through the creation of innovative new drugs.

The pharmaceutical industry is a key industry that protects the health and lives of the people and supports the sustainable growth of Japan through innovation. As an industry, we are committed to continuously providing treatment options for diseases for which there are no effective treatments or for which efficacy is inadequate through the creation of innovative new drugs.

To this end, we need to create an "attractive market" in Japan that attracts investment from overseas, as well as to implement an aggressive development investment cycle in Japan.

On the other hand, the environment surrounding the global pharmaceutical industry is becoming more uncertain and changing drastically due to tariff measures in the U.S., MFN measures that reduce the price of U.S. drugs to the lowest overseas drug price, and heightened geopolitical risks.

Under the new administration, I look forward to the further enhancement and reinforcement of the drug discovery environment so that the provision of innovative new drugs in Japan will not be delayed under any circumstances.
