JPMA and INCATE join forces to Advance Innovation in the Fight Against Antimicrobial Resistance

The Infectious Diseases Group of the Global Health Committee of the JPMA International Affairs Committee held a webinar "Towards a Global Community to Promote Research and Development of Antibacterial Therapies in Europe (INCATE)" in cooperation with INCATE (INCubator for Antibacterial Therapies in Europe). The group is committed to promoting the development of drug-resistant drugs in Japan.

This group is also working to support drug discovery from academia in order to promote the discovery of therapeutic drugs against drug-resistant (AMR) bacteria in Japan. In Japan, the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED) is playing a central role in providing various types of support, but this webinar was planned with the belief that the utilization of overseas communities and funds will contribute to the acceleration of future research and development.

INCATE is an incubator specializing in antimicrobials established in Europe in 2021. INCATE provides professional advice, business planning and funding support to researchers and start-up companies, and has formed a community of industry, academia and policy makers.

In this webinar, in cooperation with INCATE, the organization introduced its activities and shared a case study from Japan on the research and development of unique small molecule antimicrobials and bacteriophage-based therapeutics to combat AMR. It was a valuable opportunity for participants to discuss effective measures to promote future research and development and to deepen each other's knowledge. We hope that this event will serve as an opportunity to exchange useful information for those who are conducting research and development for AMR in Japan.
