Drug Evaluation Committee November 10, 2026: Joint Seminar with Vivli: “Sharing Clinical Trial Data in the European Health Data Space (EHDS)”

October 26, 2026

The Drug Evaluation Committee’s Data and Digital Innovation (D/DI) Unit, ET4-9 Clinical Programming, of the Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (JPMA) will host a seminar titled “Sharing Clinical Trial Data in the European Health Data Space (EHDS)” in collaboration with the nonprofit organization Vivli.

The EHDS is a new framework designed to promote the secure sharing and utilization of medical and health data within the EU, and it is gaining attention as a foundation for the secondary use of data for research, innovation, regulatory activities, and other purposes. As the importance of data sharing in pharmaceutical development has grown in recent years, there is significant interest in how the EHDS will impact the sharing and reuse of clinical trial data.

At this seminar, a representative from Vivli—a leader in promoting clinical trial data sharing—will deliver a presentation on the overview of the EHDS, its relationship to clinical trial data sharing, and the latest trends in Europe.

Furthermore, in the panel discussion following the presentation, members of the JPMA will participate as panelists to exchange views on how the EHDS might impact Japanese pharmaceutical companies and researchers, and what preparations and responses will be required going forward. We hope this event will provide participants with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the changing landscape surrounding data sharing and to consider its implications for pharmaceutical development and clinical research in Japan.
