At the 2017 Clinical Evaluation Subcommittee TF-2, we prepared an educational slide on Milestone payment (hereinafter referred to as "this slide") with the aim of establishing the "performance-based clinical trial fee payment method" in Japan. This slide summarizes the current situation surrounding clinical trial costs, definitions and examples of milestone payment (including visit payment), which is a concrete measure for performance-based payment of clinical trial costs, the necessity and current status of milestone payment, its features, and Q&A for its introduction. This slide summarizes the definition and examples of milestone payment (including visit payment). This slide is useful for sponsors, CROs, medical institutions, and SMOs when considering the introduction of a "performance-based payment method for clinical trials" and when educating related departments.
We hope that these slides will help to optimize clinical trial costs, revitalize clinical trials, and improve international competitiveness.
