In TF-2 of the Clinical Evaluation Subcommittee in FY 2017, we prepared an educational slide on Milestone payment (hereinafter referred to as "this slide") with the aim of establishing the "performance-based clinical trial cost payment method" in Japan. This slide summarizes the current situation surrounding clinical trial costs, definitions and examples of milestone payment (including visit payment), which is a concrete measure for performance-based payment of clinical trial costs, the necessity and current status of milestone payment, its features, and Q&A for its introduction. This slide is useful for sponsors, CROs, medical institutions, and SMOs when considering the introduction of a "performance-based payment method for clinical trials" and when educating related departments.
