Category: 1. RMP (Risk Management Plan for Medicines)

Background

With the 2024 revision of the reimbursement system, pharmacists are now able to calculate the additional fee for specific drug management guidance when they provide explanations regarding safety to patients using materials prepared and distributed as additional risk minimization activities for RMPs (RMP materials), and RMPs and RMP materials are now widely recognized by dispensing pharmacists. RMPs and RMP materials became widely recognized by dispensing pharmacy pharmacists.
According to the results of a survey of dispensing pharmacy pharmacists conducted by Nexway in May 2025, 78% of all facilities (including those planning to use RMPs) are utilizing RMPs, indicating that interest in RMPs is growing.
On the other hand, when asked why they do not utilize RMPs, a relatively large number of respondents answered that they "do not know how to utilize RMPs specifically" or "have not had the opportunity to utilize RMPs.
Therefore, the Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association Drug Evaluation Committee, Pharmacovigilance Subcommittee, Continuing Issues Team 1 (KT1) decided to collect and summarize examples of utilization of RMPs and RMP materials based on information published in academic papers and conferences, as well as interviews with dispensing pharmacists who voluntarily cooperated in this project.
We hope that this document will be of some help to pharmacies in utilizing RMP/RMP materials for the proper use of pharmaceuticals and patient safety measures.
