Drug Evaluation Committee Utilization of Artificial Intelligence in Data Management - Starting AI from Now on

May 2023

The DS Subcommittee published “What Is AI?” in 2019 and “Getting Started with Machine Learning” in 2020 as AI-related deliverables. While both were highly useful resources, it was felt that a bridging guide—one that helps users visualize concrete implementations—was necessary to effectively apply AI to practical data management work. Therefore, this document introduces implementation examples in the field of data management so that even beginners in AI can gain a concrete understanding. It also reorganizes the preparations, challenges, considerations, and tips for using AI, and discusses approaches to policies for organizations introducing AI. Furthermore, it includes an outlook on the use of AI in the field of data management. The Appendix also includes details of the prototyping actually conducted by the Task Force.
We hope this deliverable will serve as a useful reference not only for those engaged in data management operations but also for AI beginners involved in areas ranging from clinical development to post-marketing surveillance, thereby promoting the use of AI in their respective fields.
