May 2026
The aging of the population and the increase in chronic diseases, including lifestyle-related diseases, have made the demand for medical care and medical expenses a major issue. Against this backdrop, the importance of disease prevention and early response, as well as treatment after disease onset, is further increasing. In recent years, advances in digital technology have led to the emergence of a variety of digital solutions that help people understand their health status, support behavioral change, and encourage early detection, and their use is expanding in the field of preventive medicine. In this deliverable, we have summarized the social background and basic concepts surrounding preventive medicine, reviewed examples of digital utilization in Japan and overseas, and the efforts of local governments, insurers, companies, and pharmaceutical companies, and summarized future issues and the roles pharmaceutical companies can play. We hope that this document will help those interested in preventive medicine and digital utilization in their deliberations and discussions.
