JPMA Code is an industry self-regulatory code established in January 2013 (effective April 2013), building upon the Promotion Code enacted in 1993. Its scope covers all corporate activities conducted by officers and employees of member companies toward researchers, healthcare professionals, patient groups, wholesalers, and others.

The revisions effective in May 2025 consist of four points: a revision to the definition of “promotion”; changes to the content of the “Prescription Drug Promotion Code”; the elimination of duplicate provisions between the “Code of Practice” and the “Prescription Drug Promotion Code”; and the reorganization of references to and inclusion of JPMA notifications and IFPMA guidance. The overall structure is as follows: “I-1. Code of Practice,” “I-2. Code of Promotion for Prescription Drugs,” “II-1. Explanation of the Code of Practice,”“II-2. Explanation of the Prescription Drug Promotion Code.” In addition, the website includes various rules, regulations, and guidelines, as well as documents issued by the Chairperson and other related materials.
