IFPMA's Five Priorities for Preparing for and Responding to Future Pandemics

IFPMA has released five key priorities identified by the COVID-19 pandemic for future pandemic preparedness and response. The following five priorities are critical to developing and deploying future pandemic preparedness more rapidly and effectively, and to achieving global health equity from the earliest stages of a pandemic.

  1. Maintaining a vibrant innovation ecosystem based on intellectual property and ensuring rapid, reliable, and unfettered access to pathogens and their genetic information
  2. To build equitable access to vaccines and therapeutics early in the pandemic response and shape a new social contract
  3. Developing a sustainable manufacturing capacity globally in peacetime that can be scaled up to provide large supplies of therapeutics and vaccines in the event of future pandemics
  4. Support the development of a trade environment that contributes to global health security through open borders and the elimination of trade restrictions.
  5. Support ongoing efforts to strengthen national preparedness to anticipate and respond to future pandemics.
