Rapid progress in digital technologies, including IoT and artificial intelligence, and the development of a data-driven society are bringing about a paradigm shift in the pharmaceutical industry.
What can pharmaceuticals gain from the data of consumers and society, and how can they be improved? What role can drugs play in communication between patients and healthcare professionals? Can pharmaceuticals respond to the emergence of personal data that enables precise stratification? How should pharmaceutical companies deal with the minds and sensibilities of patients and citizens? Will pharmaceutical companies continue to be "users" of data? In addition to these perspectives, as the importance of prevention and behavior change increases, it is time for the entire industry to consider what the pharmaceutical industry, which has been responsible for treatment, should do.
This paper discusses the need to promote "aggressive digitalization" from the perspective of "Pharma as a Service," including the development and provision of companion apps and digital therapeutics, as well as the spread of next-generation digital health and the need to contribute as a data provider. The report also discusses the need to promote "offensive digitalization" such as the development and provision of companion apps and digital therapeutics, as well as the need to promote next-generation digital health and contribute as a data provider.
