Fifteen years have passed since the publication of Research Paper No. 20 "The Value of Pharmaceuticals" in July 2004. During that time, the social and economic environment, as well as the various environments surrounding healthcare and pharmaceuticals, have changed, and related science and technology have advanced rapidly.
In light of the above, this paper will review the various values of pharmaceuticals and their multifaceted nature, which are provided as a variety of benefits to medicine and society, and discuss the concept and possibilities of evaluating the multifaceted nature of the different values of each pharmaceutical product. (The contents of this research paper are based on the discussions in the "Study Group on the Value of Pharmaceuticals," consisting of experts from related committees of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers' Association of Japan, and were compiled at the author's own risk.)
