Institute Overview

The Office of Pharmaceutical Industry Research (The Pharmaceuticals Research Institute of Japan (PRI) is a research organization that analyzes and examines the environment surrounding the pharmaceutical industry and medium- to long-term issues facing the industry, and makes recommendations.

Purpose of Research Activities

Through surveys, analysis, and research on the pharmaceutical industry, and by making recommendations on the results of these studies, the institute aims to contribute to the improvement and enhancement of the environment for the creation of innovative and highly useful new drugs, and to the sound development of the pharmaceutical industry.

Outline of Research and Studies

  1. Research on the future vision of the pharmaceutical industry and strategies to realize the vision
  2. Research on industrial organization, industrial structure, industrial policy, etc. related to the pharmaceutical industry
  3. Research on issues related to the creation of innovative new drugs and the internal and external environment
  4. Research on issues and systems related to the use of medical DX and health care data
  5. Research on the drug price system in which the value of drugs is appropriately evaluated, and the pharmaceutical affairs system to ensure the quality, efficacy, and safety of drugs and to maintain and improve the public's health and hygiene
  6. Support for JPMA's policy advocacy activities
  7. Construction of databases related to industrial policy
