Introduction of activities to spread awareness of AMR countermeasures
In response to a request from the National Council for Drug Resistance (AMR), the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Japan (PMAJ) is conducting a wide range of activities aimed at spreading awareness of AMR countermeasures. Drug-resistant (AMR) bacteria, which are ineffective against antimicrobial agents* that are supposed to be effective, are on the increase and have become a global threat. We will continue our educational activities to prevent the increase of drug-resistant bacteria.

Report on AMR Awareness Video Contest
The International Committee of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Japan (IPMAJ) held the "Drug Resistance Awareness Video Contest" in conjunction with the Yomiuri Shimbun during the AMR Month, which is held every November! Video Contest" in conjunction with the Yomiuri Shimbun. This contest was planned with the hope that more people, especially young people, will learn about drug resistance and work to solve the problem.
The theme of the contest was "Let's learn about drug resistance (AMR)! and the video was created to explain what drug-resistant bacteria are, what happens when they spread, and what can be done to solve the problem.
The contest was divided into two categories: junior high and high school students and the general public (29 years old and under), and the Grand Prize, Excellence Award, and Pharmaceutical Cooperative Award were selected in each category. The award ceremony was successfully held on November 17, 2024, with the cooperation of various people from industry, academia, and government as judges and supervisors. After the award ceremony, an article about the contest was published in the Yomiuri Shimbun, making more people aware of AMR.

The Pharmaceutical Cooperative Association of Japan is also involved in AMR awareness activities for young people. We created educational contents about AMR for elementary and junior high school students, which were published in "Gakken Kids Net Summer Holiday Free Research Project". The content was designed to provide children with an opportunity to learn about the dangers and causes of drug-resistant bacteria, as well as prevention of the emergence of drug-resistant bacteria, in the course of their free research and home study.

Messages from various seniors to pharmacy students who aspire to become pharmacists
The Pharmaceutical Cooperative Association of Japan also conducts educational activities for students, one of the groups that we hope will be interested in AMR. In particular, for pharmacy students, we have created a video interview with a professor who is an opinion leader in the field of infectious diseases and a pharmacist who is at the forefront of clinical practice and active in the field of infectious disease treatment. Through their thoughts on the proper use of antimicrobial agents and advice to students, we aim to help them envision their future in the practice of infectious diseases. Please take a look.
