United Nations High Level Panel (UNHLP)
At the initiative of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, the UN High-Level Panel (UN HLP) was formed to make recommendations on access to medicines and to submit recommendations to the UN for improving access to medicines for affordable non-communicable and communicable diseases.
In response, the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA) submitted a written opinion to the UN HLP.
In the letter, IFPMA provides evidence of the value of intellectual property to access to medicines, as well as viable solutions that will improve access to medicines and address these most common practical barriers in the pursuit of universal health coverage, which is both feasible in the long term and practically feasible in the short term. The presentation emphasized that addressing these most common practical barriers requires collaborative action and innovative solutions that can be implemented in the long term, as well as practically feasible.
