Basic Philosophy
The Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (JPMA) declares in its "JPMA Charter of Corporate Behavior" that "tackling environmental issues is a challenge common to all humankind, and we will act proactively as an essential requirement for the activities and survival of the company.
We shall give consideration to the preservation of the global environment, including the atmosphere, waters, soils, and ecosystems, from the research, development, production, and marketing of pharmaceutical products through to their use and disposal. We shall be grateful for the blessings of nature created by biodiversity, which is an important foundation of the global environment, and aspire to achieve harmony between the natural environment and our business activities. Recognizing the importance of biodiversity, we will communicate with society and contribute to the development of a sustainable society by fulfilling our social responsibilities regarding biodiversity.
The following "Action Guidelines" are provided as a guide for taking appropriate actions in response to the "Basic Principles". These action guidelines are not intended to indicate all the actions necessary for biodiversity conservation, but rather to serve as a reference for each company to find and implement the best possible measures, taking into consideration the harmony between the natural environment and business activities.
Action Guidelines
1. Promote initiatives to prevent global warming
Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by introducing and promoting the use of energy-saving technologies, and promote efforts to address climate change issues that have a significant impact on biodiversity.
2. Sustainable use of resources
To promote the effective use of resources and to continuously promote the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), etc. toward the formation of a recycling-oriented society. In the use of biological resources (including genetic resources) in the development and manufacture of pharmaceuticals, we will consider the conservation of biodiversity and act in accordance with international rules.
3. Reduce environmental risks caused by chemical substances
We will give consideration to the impact of our business activities and the use and disposal of our products on biodiversity, and strive to reduce the environmental impact on the atmosphere, water, soil, and ecosystems caused by the emission of chemical substances.
4. Laying the foundation for biodiversity conservation
We will actively communicate with local communities through employee education and social contribution activities that contribute to the preservation of biodiversity, and through collaboration and cooperation with internal and external parties, we will strive to raise awareness of the need to preserve biodiversity in society as a whole.
