Receipt Data
A statement of medical fees, commonly known as a "receipt," is a statement used by medical institutions to bill insurers (health insurance societies, national health insurance, etc.) for the costs of medical treatment. Medical institutions prepare a monthly statement for each patient who has been seen by the insurer.

The medical institution prepares a receipt for insurance billing that consolidates the details of a month's medical treatment from medical records, and submits it to an examination and payment institution. The examination and payment organization examines whether the details of medical treatment described in the receipt are in accordance with the billing rules for medical fees set by the government. If the examination is approved, medical fees are billed to the insurer and paid to the medical institution.
Receipts contain information such as name, date of birth, gender, insurer/insured person number, year of treatment, department, name of doctor, name of injury or disease, medical treatment and reimbursement points. Receipts are requested by various institutions such as hospitals, clinics (medical clinics), dental clinics, dispensing pharmacies (insurance pharmacies), and home nursing stations.
Receipt data is publicly stored in databases such as the National Database of Medical Insurance (NDB) and the National Health Insurance Database (KDB), and is used for surveys and analysis to optimize medical costs, and for research and surveys of public interest. Receipt data collected by health insurance associations and medical institutions are also used for various secondary use It is one of the most well-developed and utilized medical data in Japan.
